rural hospitals SPD improves information

The introduction of the national Electronic Patient Dossier (EPD) will significantly improve information security in hospitals. This sets the NVZ Association of Hospitals (NVZ) in response to the report information in hospitals does not meet the standard 'that the Inspectorate for Health Care (IGZ) and the College Personal Protection (CBP) have made public.

Although the NVZ with the researchers agree that their hospitals should improve further information, it is convinced that the hospitals of patient safety for the introduction of the national SPD can guarantee.

The NVZ feasible because it considers this an awareness campaign in hospitals around information security efforts. It also has a starter with standards drawn up information about which hospitals should meet for connection to the rural switching because of the SPD as possible. In addition, caregivers with the introduction of a unique health care providers nationwide SPD identification (UZI), only with a login code that they have a limited set of relevant information for their patients can understand that they have a treatment relationship.

The IGZ and CBP in the spring of 2007 in 20 hospitals examined to what extent they meet the standard NEN7510. This is the standard for the degree of information security in healthcare.

Hospitals do not believe that they now fully comply with the BS 7510 requirements. They want an optimal balance between security and a workable situation in the use of patient data. Also play a role cost around information security. Hospitals need to spend their growing budget priorities. Absolute security of patient data is not practical and feasible in terms of cost and because of the nature of work in hospitals nor desirable. Medical staff in acute situations should continue to act quickly.
