Dutch use antibiotics the least

Of all European countries use antibiotics in the Netherlands the lowest. Today begins a European campaign to pay attention to the danger of excessive use of antibiotics.

Dutch use antibiotics the least

When people use too many antibiotics, bacteria change shape and are immune (resistant) for this product. In countries such as Greece, France and Italy are three times as many antibiotics as used in the Netherlands. There are one quarter to one half of the bacteria resistant to antibiotics.

According to the European Center for Disease Prevention (ECDC) this resistance is a threat to public health. If this continues, there will be a couple more years no means to diseases such as pneumonia to a simple fight.

10 daily
In the Netherlands the use of antibiotics in the last four years rose slightly. Dutch general practitioners write on average per day about 10-11 daily dose of antibiotics per thousand inhabitants. In Greece, this number is three times as high.
